10 Breathtaking Beaches That Will Make You Fall in Love With the Ocean
We’ve all been there before—you’re stuck inside on a cold, rainy day, the sun is shining outside, and you just can’t help but think about how much fun you would be having on a tropical beach. When you get there, the beach will take your breath away with its beauty and majesty. From the crystal clear water to the seagulls flying overhead to the palm trees swaying in the breeze, these are some of the most breathtaking beaches in the world.
1 - ANSE SOURCE D’ARGENT, SEYCHELLES
In the Indian Ocean is the paradisiacal archipelago of La Digue, which contains 115 islands and is one of the most photographed beaches in the world, Anse Source d'Argent. As the beach sparkles against the backdrop of granite boulders weathered by time and the elements, granite boulders appear to have glow. An offshore reef protects the turquoise water from ocean waves, making it an ideal swimming spot. Keep an eye out for bird life and giant tortoises!
2 - POLIHALE BEACH
I find Polihale to be the most beautiful beach in the Hawaiian archipelago. This 11 km (7 miles) stretch of the western end of Kauai harbors a mystical and enchanted vibe, still present today on one of the world's most picturesque islands. The beach is accessed by a poorly marked, dirt sugarcane road, so it is best to take a four-wheel drive vehicle (check with your rental company for restrictions before leaving).
3 - CAMPS BAY
One of Cape Town's most popular beaches, Camps Bay, also happens to be the only urban beach that made it onto my top 10 list. Situated next to Table Mountain and backed by the Twelve Apostles Mountain Range, Camps Bay's pristine white sand contrasted with its startling blue waves, though a bit colder due to the nearby Atlantic Ocean, doesn't detract from the incredible setting that often leaves sunsets of spectacular splendor.
4 - MAYA BAY
Beautiful Maya Bay on Koh Phi Phi in Thailand. Featuring white sand surrounded by mangroves and limestone walls layered in dense foliage, it's no wonder Danny Boyle chose this beach as the setting for The Beach. In the bay, the primary beach measures 650 feet long with coral reefs and exotic fish under a rich and abundant atmosphere.
5 - LONG BEACH, VANCOUVER ISLAND, CANADA
Long Beach offers some of the most beautiful views of the ocean on Canada's Vancouver Island and it is the longest sandy beach in the world. It offers a unique maritime wilderness and offers one of the most breathtaking beaches around. Ten miles (16 km) of pristine sand border lush rainforest and are washed by pounding surf on this coast each spring and summer. During the spring and summer, up to twenty thousand grey whales migrate along this coast.
6 - BAIA DO SANCHO
Located on the remote island of Fernando de Noronha, an active volcanic archipelago of 21 islands in the Atlantic Ocean, Baio Do Sancho sparkles in the emerald water and has soft white sands that surround vegetation-covered 250 ft (75 m) cliffs. To get to the beach, there are a few different methods: you can arrive by boat or by foot, using a rough and precarious pathway. Great for snorkeling, there are occasional sightings of rays in the water.
7- WHITEHAVEN BEACH, QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA
It is located in the Whitsunday Islands National Park in Australia's heart of the Great Barrier Reef and stretches for 4.4 miles (7 km) along water swirling in shades of blue, green, and turquoise. Its sand has a brilliant, almost luminescent color because it is composed of 98% pure white silica. The beach can be reached by seaplane or helicopter, or you can sail there on a yacht charter.
8 - GRACE BAY, TURKS & CAICOS
. Grace Bay is located on the northern shore and it's a 19km (12 miles) paradise-perfect mix of sugary sand and crystal clear water, with coral reefs with amazing snorkeling and diving opportunities. As more resorts and condo hotels have opened along the shore in recent years, it may be better to stick to Amanyara or Parrot Cay these days as they offer more private beaches.
9 - NAVAGIO BEACH
In the Greek island of Zakynthos, there is a beautiful sandy cove known as Navagio. It is often called Shipwreck Beach because it contains the wreck of a ship called Panagiotis, which was a smuggler's vessel. Not only does this region have limestone cliffs, white sand beaches, and clear blue water, it also attracts thousands of tourists every year. You can only access the beach by boat, but you can view it from above if you stand on the high sides of the surrounding cliffs.
10- TULUM, RIVIERA MAYA, MEXICO
Tulum is a top cultural destination in Mexico, with some of the most striking Mayan ruins in the country: it is one of the world's best beaches that is close to one of the world's best cultural destinations. The ruin of Tulum lies on the rocky cliffs above a spectacular beach, which is overrun with tourists every day. Though the area may not be completely private, the long stretch of white sands and the turquoise waters more than make up for it.
